How to play

• Drag a block and it follows your finger, square by square, until something is in the way.
• Push it into the gate of its own color and it leaves the board. It has to fit, so a long block needs a long gate.
• Blocks with an arrow only slide that way.
• Clear every block. Par is the fewest moves it can be done in, and one drag is one move.

Each color also has its own shape (circle, square, triangle, diamond, star, plus), so you never have to tell colors apart by shade. You can turn the shapes off in Settings.

One ranked board a day, the same for everyone, with a new one at midnight Pacific. Want more? Practice as much as you like, or make your own and send the link.

Tips for Color Gates

• Start with the block that already has a clear path to its gate. Getting one block out often opens room for the next.
• Work backward from the gates. If a long block needs a long gate, free that lane first and keep it clear.
• Blocks with an arrow only slide one way, so plan where they end up before you move the blocks around them.
• Par is the fewest moves the board can be cleared in, and one drag is one move. A long drag counts the same as a short one, so make each drag count.

Common questions

Is Color Gates free to play?

Yes. It is free in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with no download and no sign-up. Signing in is optional and only saves your streak and puts your result on the daily board.

Is the daily board the same for everyone?

Yes. One ranked board is dealt each day, and everyone gets the same one, so your move count is comparable with other players'. A new board arrives at midnight Pacific time.

What if I want to play more than once a day?

Use Play another for as many practice boards as you like, or Make one to build your own board and send the link to a friend. Only the daily board is ranked.
