How to play

• Gloomlings march down the road toward Biscuit's basket. Each one that gets there costs a life (a Grumble boss costs three). You have 10.
• Biscuit dreams up your critters. The Next up tray under the field shows the next three; its ring fills as you earn coins. When it says Ready, tap a glowing pad and the critter hops out of Biscuit's bed.
• Drag a critter onto an identical one (same kind, same level) to merge them into one stronger critter. Its twins light up while you hold it, and merging frees a pad for a new one. You can also drag the Next up critter straight onto a level 1 twin.
• Board full of the wrong critters? Drag one down off the field, or tap it and press ✕, to remove it for a few coins (10 at level 1, up to 30 at level 5).
• Bramble smashes groups up close, Dash slashes fast, Glim beams from far away, and Hush slows Gloomlings down.
• Between waves, tap Next wave to start early for bonus coins and a faster time.
• Score = waves cleared × 1,000 + lives left × 100 + 3 per merge (up to 99). Ties go to the faster run.

One ranked field a day, the same for everyone, with a new one at midnight Pacific. Your first finished run is the ranked one. Want more? Play another as much as you like.

Tips for Critter Guard

• Merge early and often. Two matching critters make one stronger critter and free up a pad, so keeping the field tidy gives you room for the next one.
• Pick critters for the job. Bramble smashes groups up close, Dash slashes fast, Glim beams from far away and Hush slows Gloomlings down.
• Between waves, tap Next wave to start early. You earn bonus coins and a faster time, but only do it when your defence is ready.
• Remove a critter that does not fit your plan to make a pad free. It costs a few coins, so it is best done before the board gets crowded.

Is Critter Guard free to play?

Yes. It is free in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. There is nothing to download, and signing in is optional.

How is the score worked out?

Your score is waves cleared times 1,000, plus lives left times 100, plus 3 for each merge, up to 99. Ties go to the faster run.

Is the daily field the same for everyone?

Yes. One ranked field is dealt each day and everyone gets the same one. Your first finished run is the ranked one, and a new field arrives at midnight Pacific time.
