📖 Notes & analysis

There's the sibling-rivalry route — the classic negotiation where you traded a chore for a favor and didn't realize until years later who actually won that deal. There's the underdog angle, where being underestimated was the whole plan, and the satisfaction comes less from the trick itself than from watching someone realize it too late. Or take it gentler: a moment where you outsmarted someone not through cunning but through patience, waiting out an argument or a stubborn negotiation until the other person simply ran out of steam. You could also flip the lens entirely and write about outsmarting yourself — the clever plan that worked a little too well and came back around in a way you didn't expect. Start with the moment of realization, the second you knew you'd won, and work backward from there.
