Eyes are blue but gold
Sometimes red or pink or blue
Bananas are good
Eyes are blue but gold
Sometimes red or pink or blue
Bananas are good
There's a lovely sleight of hand here: the first two lines build a little catalogue of eyes, drifting through blue and gold and red and pink, almost hypnotic in its color-naming, like you're being led toward some tender observation about perception or mood. Then the third line arrives and just steps sideways entirely — bananas are good — flat, certain, unbothered by whatever came before. That's the turn, and it's the whole joke and the whole charm: the poem refuses to resolve its own imagery, choosing instead a small unshakeable truth. The mood is playful rather than seasonal, closer to the logic of a child's non sequitur than classical haiku stillness, but it borrows that stillness's confidence. The compression works because nothing is explained — the gap between eye colors and banana contentment is where the humor lives. Reading it twice, you start to suspect the eyes were never the point at all.
