Goldfish crackers, yum

There's something lovely in how the haiku refuses to take itself seriously while still following the old shape. The crackers ground us immediately, a small bright image anyone can picture, down to that affectionate "cheese thangs" dropping into slang right when tradition expects elevated nature imagery. That's the turn: instead of a seasonal reference, we get crunching as the texture of the moment, almost onomatopoeic, standing in for autumn leaves or falling snow. Then the final line pulls back to something quieter and more human — the boss too busy, too absorbed, to look up. The mood shifts from playful to faintly wistful in five syllables flat. What the compression achieves is comic timing collapsed into stillness: the joke lands, but underneath it sits a small true observation about attention and distraction. Reading it twice, you notice the poem isn't really about crackers at all.
