📖 Notes & analysis

There's the comedy angle first — the apartment with the slanted floor where a dropped marble would roll clear into the kitchen, the landlord who fixed everything with duct tape, the roommate who swore the place had a ghost named Gary. Lean into the absurdity and let the disasters pile up like a sitcom.

Then there's the tender version, where a rough little place becomes the backdrop for something good — first apartment, first real independence, love found or grown despite peeling paint and a radiator that clanked like a drum solo. The worst place can still be the place you'd never trade.

Or go quieter and more reflective: what that home revealed about where you were in life at the time, and what leaving it eventually taught you about moving forward.
