📖 Notes & analysis

That word at the end is the whole story, so the fun is in deciding whether it's a glitch, a joke, or a genuine threat. You could play it as horror: the television has been watching back, and "kill her" is the first crack in a reality that no longer follows the rules Nick trusted, with Carol innocently in another room, unaware she's just been named. Or swing it comic: Nick's smart TV has been hacked by his prankster nephew, and the anchor's flat delivery is just bad text-to-speech reading a message meant for a video game chat, leading to a farcical dash to warn Carol about nothing. There's also a quieter option — Nick is the unreliable one, hearing things no one else hears, and the real story is what happens when he decides not to trust the voice at all.
