Writing Challenge: Take 7 random words from the dictionary and use them all in one sentence.
Random-word sentences work because constraint breeds invention. Left to your own devices, you reach for the same fifty words your brain keeps warm and ready. Force in seven strangers — say, lantern, brittle, orbit, whisper, gravel, stitch, and hollow — and suddenly you're negotiating, not reciting. You might land on: "Her whisper had gone brittle, like gravel caught in a lantern's orbit, and she had to stitch the hollow silence back together." That sentence didn't exist in your normal vocabulary rotation; the constraint dragged it out of you.
The caution: don't mistake strangeness for quality. A sentence crammed with oddball words can become a puzzle box nobody wants to open. Use the exercise to loosen the hinges of your imagination, then return to plainer language once the door's open. The goal is limber thinking, not permanent showiness.
