📖 Notes & analysis

That confession could tip in so many directions before you've even finished the sentence. Play it earnest and you're writing the quiet panic of someone realizing their feelings arrived without permission, maybe for a best friend, maybe for someone wildly inconvenient. Play it comedic and the line belongs to a character declaring love for a sourdough starter, a parking spot, or a rerun they've seen forty times, treating the absurd with total sincerity. Push toward suspense and "I think" becomes the operative phrase — a narrator who doesn't trust their own heart, wondering if what they feel is real or something planted, performed, or manipulated. You could also go quieter still: an old person saying it about life itself, decades in, surprised all over again. Pick the version that makes your chest tighten first — that's the one worth chasing.
