📖 About this haiku

There's a nice paradox running through this one: grave mistakes left unknown, memories called eternal yet unforgotten, chains that bind not space but time. Each line sets up a contradiction and refuses to resolve it, which is what makes the piece feel heavier than its length. The turn comes in that middle line — the shift from absence (unknown) to excess (eternal, unforgotten) — a swing between forgetting and being unable to forget. Then the final image, chains leading to the past, grounds the abstraction in something physical, almost gothic, giving the whole thing a wintry, haunted stillness rather than a seasonal one.

What the compression achieves is implication without confession. We never learn what the mistake was, only its gravity and its grip. That restraint is the craft: three fragments, no verbs doing much work, yet the sense of a person dragging something unspoken behind them all the way through.
