Wise Word Finder is a free daily word search where the words you hunt for are the missing words of a quote. Find them all in the letter grid and the quote reads in full.

How it works
A quote or saying appears with a few key words blanked out. Those words are hidden in a grid of letters. Drag across each one to mark it.
How long
A coffee break. It is timed, so you see your own time, and each day has four to eight words to find.
Cost
Free, in any browser, on a phone or a computer. No app, no account. A new puzzle every morning.

How it differs from an ordinary word search

In a normal word search you get a list of words and find every one. Here the list is hidden inside a sentence. You read the quote first, with gaps in it, and the gaps tell you what to look for. Some solvers guess a missing word from the sense of the sentence and then go looking for it; others scan the grid and let the quote fill in as words turn up. Both work.

How to play

  1. Read the quote at the top. The blanks mark the words you need.
  2. Scan the grid. Words run in straight lines, and some run diagonally or backwards.
  3. Drag across a word to mark it. A correct word drops into its blank.
  4. Find every word to finish the quote and post your time.

Where the quotes and sayings come from

Usually a short quote or saying, and on some days a brief writing tip, a wellbeing tip, a haiku or a riddle. The day's puzzle is the same for everyone, so you can compare notes with a friend. Credits for the sources are on the sources and credits page.

Common questions

Is this different from a normal word search?

Yes. The words you find are the missing words of a quote, so finding them completes the sentence. A normal word search just gives you a list.

How many words do I have to find?

Between four and eight, depending on the day. The puzzle tells you the target up front.

Do I need to know the quote?

No. The blanks and the grid are enough. Knowing the quote just lets you guess a word early.

Can I print it?

Yes. The daily pack prints today's word search with the quote and the answers on a separate sheet. A large print version is available too.

Is it free, and does it work on a phone?

It is free and plays in any browser. Dragging to select a word works with a finger on a touch screen.
