Party board game
A party board game is a board game designed for large, mixed groups, in which dice, luck and short minigames matter more than careful planning, so any player can win.
Think of the games where you roll, move around a board, land on a space with a good or bad effect, and then everyone plays a quick contest. The Mario Party series from Nintendo is the best-known example, and it popularized the pattern of a board that links a string of minigames together.
Two design choices define the genre. Luck is deliberate, because comebacks keep every player interested until the end. And the minigames are short and simple, so someone who has never played can still take part. Many include a prize system, like stars or trophies, and a final stretch where the standings can still swing.
Final Boss Fiesta is Bossfeed's party board game. The TV shows a picnic-park board, you roll the dice on your phone, and everyone plays minigames together. Winning minigames earns Gems, Gems buy Trophies, and most Trophies wins. Bots fill empty seats, so it works for one person or eight.
