QR code join

QR code join is a way of entering a game by pointing a phone camera at a QR code shown on the host screen, which opens the game's join page with the room code already filled in.

A QR code is a square barcode that a phone camera can read. In a party game it holds a web address that includes the room code, so scanning it takes you straight to the right room with nothing to type. For a room of eight, that turns a minute of squinting at a code into a few seconds.

No app is needed on modern phones. The built-in camera on both iPhone and Android recognises a QR code and offers to open the link in the browser. If a scan fails because of glare or distance, the typed room code on the same screen is the fallback.

Tips for hosts: show the code large, keep the screen bright, and leave it up until everyone is in. In Bossfeed's party games you can tap the room code on the host screen to enlarge the QR code for the back of the room.
