Room code
A room code is a short code, often four letters, that identifies one game session so that players can join it from their own devices.
When a host starts a game on a shared screen, the game creates a room and shows its code. Players open the game's join page, type the code and a nickname, and land in that room. The code keeps groups apart: two parties playing the same game at once each have their own code, and a player in one never appears in the other.
Codes are short on purpose, because people have to read them off a TV and type them on a phone. Designers usually avoid letters that look alike. Rooms normally close when the game ends or after a stretch of inactivity, so a code is not a permanent address.
Treat a room code like a house key for one evening. Anyone who has it can join, so for a private game share it only with the people you invited. In Bossfeed's party games the code sits on the host screen next to a QR code that does the same job with one scan.
Bossfeed party games - start any game on a TV browser and the room code appears.
