Daily puzzle

A daily puzzle is a puzzle that gets a fresh version every day, usually the same one for every player, and is designed to be finished in a few minutes.

Newspapers have run crosswords for more than a century, and the habit moved online with sudoku, word games and logic grids. What makes the format work is the shared clock. Everyone gets the same puzzle, so there is something to compare and talk about, and the puzzle is gone tomorrow, so it asks for a few minutes and not an evening.

Good daily puzzles are short, fair and finishable, with one right answer you can reach by reasoning. They tend to come with a streak counter, a leaderboard or an archive, which turn a single puzzle into a routine.

Bossfeed has a different daily puzzle for different moods: a chess mate, a word search built from a quote, a mini crossword, a cryptogram, anagrams, a one-minute logic lineup, a longer logic mystery, a riddle and a history quiz. Each has its own page, and the homepage lists the day's set.
