What is Kahoot?

Kahoot is an online quiz platform in which a host shows multiple-choice questions on a shared screen and players answer on their own phones or computers by entering a game PIN, with scores shown on a live leaderboard.

Teachers use it for classroom review and companies use it for training and team events, but it works just as well for a family quiz. The host builds or picks a quiz, starts a game and reads out a PIN. Players go to the Kahoot site or app, type the PIN and a nickname, and answer each question against a timer. Faster correct answers score more.

It is a close cousin of the Jackbox-style format, since both put the questions on a big screen and the controls on phones. The difference is mostly the kind of game. Kahoot is a quiz with right and wrong answers, while many party games lean toward bluffing, drawing and chaos.

Kahoot has free and paid plans that change over time, so check its site. The name belongs to its owner and Bossfeed is not connected to it. For a no-signup option with a trivia flavor, try Boss's Bluff, where the questions are about history and art.
