Free Jackbox alternative: party games in your browser

Bossfeed has six free party games that work the way Jackbox games do: the game shows on a TV or laptop, and everyone joins from their own phone by scanning a QR code. There is no app to install and no account to make, and below we match each of ours to the kind of Jackbox game you already enjoy.

What people mean by a Jackbox alternative

Jackbox Games makes party game packs where the game appears on one shared screen and every player joins from their own phone with a room code. Many people play this way at parties, in bars and on video calls, and the setup has a name: a Jackbox-style game. Their packs are paid products, so people often look for a free way to get the same feeling.

Bossfeed is not a copy of those games and is not connected to the company. We make different games with the same shape: a host screen, phones as controllers, short rounds, no experience needed. They run in a browser, cost nothing and need no sign-up.

How it works

  1. Open a game on the big screen. Use any screen with a web browser that everyone can see: a smart TV, a laptop plugged into the TV with an HDMI cable (the usual TV video cable), or a browser tab cast to the TV from a phone or laptop. It shows a room code and a QR code.
  2. Everyone scans the QR code. Point a phone camera at it, or type the room code, then pick a name. That takes under a minute for a full room.
  3. Play toward the screen. The phone is the controller and the TV is the show, so people look up and at each other.

The honest differences

  • Smaller library. Jackbox has many more games than we do. We have six, and we add more over time.
  • Free and in the browser. Nothing to buy or install, on the TV or on the phones.
  • Different content. Our bluffing questions are about history and art, and our other games are our own designs.
  • Some play solo. Surviversus and Final Boss Fiesta work with one person against bots, which is handy for trying them first.

Our party games

Boss's Bluff

Bluffing trivia · 2 to 8 players · about 12 minutes

A prompt about history or art appears on the TV with a blank in it. Everyone secretly writes a believable lie on their phone, the TV mixes the lies in with the real answer, and the room votes for what it thinks is true. You score for spotting the truth and for every person your lie fools.

Draw and guess · 2 to 8 players · about 20 minutes

One player picks a secret word and draws it with a finger on their phone while the TV shows the canvas. Everyone else races to type the answer. Hints appear late in the turn, and the game plays in ten languages, including English, Spanish, French and Chinese.

Thirty-two marbles pour down a mountain course on the big screen. Each phone steers a team of four, nudging one marble at a time left or right and switching to whichever of yours is furthest ahead. Short, loud and easy to join mid-evening.
